Yes I am a Scanner Enthusiast I use to have an old Uniden 175xl but i sold that and recently upgraded to a Weltz ws1000 Which I have found to be very good. Although it doesn't have a very big display it has alot of features and Scann's from 50khz to 1300 which is enough to hear most things. Watch out when buying scanners now days that they can get the exact frequency or they will be just about useless. Since the current technology is making better use of the available bandwidth the channels are getting smaller and smaller so if your scanner can't get the exact frequencies it wont be good for anything. Also we are lucky here in New Zealand that the scanners do not have blocks for certain frequencies so things like the Cellfone frequencies(810-830 & 870-890) can be heard without any modifications.
Also there are not any laws in place against scanners(Electronic Easedropping) except that you cant divulge the information to a third party(eg your mates, Cops etc!!). And people please think twice about using your cellphone to ring the telebank, voice mailboxes and other touch type utilities because yes we can get those numbers and use it for our own gains!
